Leave Your Mark

Leave Your Mark

This weekend Support U were out in force to encourage the good people of reading to ‘Leave Your Mark’.  We’ve been working alongside Sarah Lawman Art to put together a creative public event, which got you all involved and that celebrated all the things that make Reading great. Reading has always been a culturally diverse town, and we wanted to celebrate this, so we decided to encourage people to come and leave their mark on our new banners.

Setting up at 10am we had lots of interest throughout the day, and we were surprised by how many people (even fully grown men!) wanted to come down and get their hands messy in the name of equality and diversity.

This was the first event of its kind for Support U, but it was a roaring success and it went better than we could have hoped. The interest we gained varied from those wanting to get involved and paint to others who wanted to talk about Support U and what we do. To make the day that little bit more exciting we were serenaded by the local buskers and our own talented house band of Vicky and Huw.

With over 100 people taking part throughout the day we soon filled up our and as hope we had people of all backgrounds getting involved and it proved to be a great outing for us.

Thanks to all those who came and took part in the event, we’re hoping to plan more event like this. Engaging the public in the creative process, and continuing the discussion on diversity, equality and all things LGBT+.

The banner are due to be displayed in Sainsbury’s on Friar Street for the next couple of weeks to make sure you go along and have a look at the finished piece of art.
