Great Reading Bake Off

Yesterday, local solicitors Rowberry Morris hosted a Great British Bake Off inspired coffee morning in aid of two local charities. Support U and Sue Ryder the Duchess of Kent Hospice based near Prospect Park which offers specialist care and support to those facing life changing diagnosis.

Whilst there was no Mary and Paul from the Great British Bake Off, we were joined by a judging panel made up of notable individuals from the local community: Mayor of Reading Sarah Hacker, Jack FM’s Robin Banks, Sun Inn’s Bar Manager Brent Guiblin and Sainsburys PR Ambassador Charlotte Bernard (pictured above with the winner Chris Searle).

After sampling all the cakes which were entered, they crowned Chris Searle from Rowberry Morris’s victoria sandwich cake with fresh strawberries and cream the winner.

“It’s great to see so many people here supporting both causes and enjoying all the cake that is on offer. Big thanks to organisers Rowberry Morris for putting the event together and to the judging panel for coming along and supporting aswell” says Support U’s Engagement Manager Nick Musson.

“The event was a great success thanks to our loyal attendees, not to forget the new ones. We make an effort to combine “networking” and charity events and find they tend to work because it firstly, gives everyone the opportunity to learn about what we all do, and secondly, if the opportunity subsequently arises, we can then share business opportunities between us.  Of course, at the same time we can all contribute to these very worthy causes.” Ian Beavon, of Rowberry Morris

Altogether the bake off along with a raffle with prizes kindly donated by members of Rowberry Morris staff and other guests the event raised £224.97 which will be split across both charities.
