Meet Support U and Fundraiser
We have been operating for over 7 years now, Support U have grown and matured into the organisation we hope the LGBT+ Community would like to see.
We’ve been a bit shy in our approach to publicity and feel it’s time for us to ‘Come Out’ and shout a little more about what we have been up to.
We would like the opportunity to tell you what we are up to and how we have been supporting the LGBT+ Community of Reading, the Thames Valley and sometimes around the country. Please come along have your say and get to know us properly
We have a lot to be proud of and we hope you will feel the same and want to support this evening of new beginnings for the organisation and how we intend to build on making lives for LGBT+ people stronger. If you can’t make it but would like to help with our future and make sure we are here in 2019, please donate here.
What can you expect from the evening:
- Meet the new CEO’s, trustees and volunteers
- Catch up with our progress and our future plans
- With special guests speakers from Service Users, Partners and Reading Community Leaders
- Donation opportunities will be available
- Volunteer opportunities (Maybe you can help us be better at shouting about ourselves)
- Then finish off the night with some Waynie Karaoke
Support U was born in 2010 following an increased demand for support, advice and guidance with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans* issues within Reading and the Thames Valley.
Our volunteering team are here to answer your calls, offer a warm welcome at our drop-in centre, and can be found at our support groups. Together, we respond to over 3,500 queries each year, covering a range of health, social and support topics.
Are you in need help with a LGBT+ related issue, or know somebody that does? Get in touch via our secure messaging for confidential help from one of our support team.
We operate support and social groups in the local area, including; Trans* Support Group, the LGBT+ Youth Group (Affinity), monthly TV/CD Social Group, and regular sexual health and HIV testing.
We are the selected Stonewall training partner for the Thames Valley and South West region for LGBT training courses for Primary and Secondary school environments. Our training courses equip school staff to tackle Homophobic, Biphobic and Transphobic (HBT) bullying and give them the knowledge and skills to train other colleagues.
